despise bigotry. Not every person in my family would
graciously accept an interracial marriage. I wish they were
all, warm, open, and welcoming, but wishing will never make it so.
I live not to earn their favor and cater to their happiness, for
happiness is born within each person. I will not be ruled by
bigots, nor will it dictate my friends and relationships, least of
all the wife I choose, the person who chooses me. Many in my
family would accept you warmly and without question, but you should
know it would likely not be universal. I can live with this,
and my hope is that you can, too. And maybe, just maybe, love
will sway them, too, in time. |
